Trailers Week 13: 05/10/14

Inherent Vice
This is the big trailer this week, having been hotly anticipated since it's announcement. Written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood) and adapted from Thomas Pynchon's 2009 novel. This movie already has a pretty big Oscar buzz surrounding it and I'm sure we won't be disappointed. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, Reese Witherspoon and Owen Wilson.

Tak3n
Get ready, you guys are going to love this. Liam Neeson has been framed for murder and not at all had someone taken from him, so that's a bit disappointing. Really they could have the same character in a series of films like they do with Jack Ryan (The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games and the like).

The Water Diviner
Australian (depending on who you ask) actor Russell "Rusty" Crowe has made his directorial debut. Despite this movie also starring Crowe, it doesn't look half bad. It follows a country man who travels to Turkey after World War I to search for his sons who fought in the Battle of Gallipoli. Also starring Olga Kurylenko and Jai Courtney.

American Sniper
Clint Eastwood's latest movie is based on Chris Kyle's autobiography about his life as a sniper in Iraq. Bradley Cooper stars as Kyle, with Sienna Miller and Kyle Gallner also starring.

Black Sea
This tense looking submarine thriller is about an unemployed submarine captain who is hired to lead a team to recover some gold from a sunken Nazi U-Boat in the middle of the Black Sea. It looks suitably claustrophobic. Starring Jude Law, Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Karl Davies and Tobias Menzies.

Miss Meadows
Katie Holmes stars in this one (I don't even know what genre it is), where she plays an elementary school teacher who is also a vigilante. It actually looks pretty funny. Also starring James Badge Dale and Callen Mulvey.

Classic Trailer: Reservoir Dogs (1992)
The reason I chose the trailer for this movie over Pulp Fiction is because when that movie was coming out, everyone was anticipating it. When this was coming out, there was no expectation of what a Tarantino movie should be. This trailer shows how the movie jumps between comedy and drama so well.
