Trailers Week 137: 19/02/17

Ghost in the Shell
We get our first proper look at this anime adaptation. All of these stories are the same though. Something gets taken, another person tries to get it back.

Colossal
That's a lot of responsibility for an alcoholic to have.

Dean
Demetri Martin's brand of comedy isn't for everyone. I know it is for me though.

The House
Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler are just the types who would open a casino in their house.

Everything, Everything
After she dies, will he feel super guilty? He should.

Song to Song
How did I not know this would be another weird Terrence Malik movie.

Mine
Talk about a tough situation.

The Institute
When someone says you're going to be in safe hands in a sinister way, you get out of there.

Trailers Week 136: 12/02/17

The Circle
Tom Hanks would probably make a really good cult leader. He's very charismatic and people have a tendency to listen when he talks.

Wish Upon
This is like if you had a magic monkey's paw that didn't run out.

It Comes at Night
This looks like it wants to be classy horror movie, but chances are it won't be.

The Beguiled
I don't know who you should be more afraid of here. There's something sinister about a group of women living in a Civil War house all on their own.

Aftermath
I guess he has a right to be angry, but I don't think the air traffic controller did anything terribly wrong. It's just one big accident.

Snatched
I mean if this stops certain people from travelling overseas, then I guess they shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

Unlocked
I'm guessing that there's a government group that wants to commit a terrorist attack and blame it on extremists? Don't go giving people ideas.

Avengers: Infinity War
Not a trailer, but a behind the scenes look for all you Marvel fanboys out there.

Superbowl Special

It's that time of year where people pop out the chips and drinks and watch that most special of events, you know, the Super Bowl Halftime Special and tiny movie trailers (unless you're one of the people who like to watch the futbol and find that stuff an annoying distraction from Tom Brady). Instead of waiting till next Sunday, we've decided to give you all the mini movie trailers in one easy spot.

Logan
We know that this one is R-rated, so it's expected that Wolverine is going to be ripping hearts out, but I hope mini-Wolverine will be tearing faces off as well.

John Wick: Chapter 2
Well we definitely know that there will be exploding heads in this one. My guess is even girls will be wanting their significant others to take them to this over Fifty Shades for Valentine's Day.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
I'm more inclined to say that I'll be watching this more for Drax than Baby Groot.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Part of me wants as little Johnny Depp in this movie as possible, but we all know that can't happen. But hey, Orlando's back, that should be good.

Transformers: The Last Knight
Oh, I get it, Sir Anthony Hopkins is an actual knight and he must be the last one. But seriously, putting him in this isn't going to elevate your movie, if anything it'll probably tarnish his career.

The Fate of the Furious
Family.

Baywatch
Sometimes The Rock takes himself seriously and other times he knows he's a big joke.

A Cure for Wellness
Oh no, I've been feeling some of these symptoms.

Trailers Week 135: 05/02/17

Fist Fight (NSFW)
This is the third time that I've shown a trailer for this movie and there's only so many variations of 'Never get into a fight with Ice Cube' that I can do. But hey, imagine if your guidance teacher at high school smoked meth. They probably did.

Girls Trip
When the letters that spell out the title of the movie pop up, I though it said GIRL STRIP, but then it highlighted an even bigger problem for me. There's no apostrophe in girls. Unless it actually means "Watch these girls trip on mushrooms". I just don't know.

The Blackcoat's Daughter
Enough with the 'funny' stuff already, let's get to the real trailers. This here is an example of a good horror trailer. We get the feeling something sinister is going to happen, there's talk of devil's cults and creepy teens and there's no sign of any monster jump scares.

Personal Shopper
We go from that to another less conventional horror movie where a dead brother tries to communicate with his sister. Actually that sounds like it's very conventional.

Life
When I watch this, I feel as though Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal are going to be the new bromance that everyone wants to see in all the movies.

Their Finest
In the current world that we live in, I guess it's okay to start making movies about how they made propaganda back in the day. I mean we all have to learn sooner or later.

Beauty and the Beast
I'm glad I know this story back to front already because this trailer would ruin the whole story for me.

Trailers Week 134: 29/01/17

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
Now is the sword he pulls from the stone the same as the one he got from the lake. The guys from Monty Python definitely got it right when they said that royal succession shouldn't be dictated by some watery tart. Jude Law does make one hell of a villain though.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Remember when I said a couple of weeks ago that Japanese trailers look so much more epic, I guess that's only if it has the cool Japanese voiceover guy.

T2: Trainspotting
And also putting subtitles on a trailer we've already seen before isn't a new trailer. It's especially bad when they misspell Ewan McGregor's Mark as Mike.

In Dubious Battle
James Franco's adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel about striking apple pickers has more big name actors that you can shake a stick at.

My Cousin Rachel
I'm okay with there being a proliferation of movies being set in Victorian England. What I'm not okay with is Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" being slowed down for this trailer. If anything, you'd use "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing".

Brimstone
A western where a righteous preacher goes savage on the townfolk for their sins? Think of all that old west whoring, drinking and cussing. That's a lot of sins.

Lowriders
This young kid goes against his family tradition of being into lowriders to be a street artist. But man, por que no los dos?

Sunday, 22 January 2017

Trailers Week 133: 22/01/17

Logan
I like to imagine that this movie takes place in world where the X-Men are fictional characters and Wolverine is the only real mutant. Mini Wolverine too, I guess.

Power Rangers
They could probably make a Power Rangers movie where they don't need the gritty explanation for how they became who they are. People would still go and see it.

The Lost City of Z
I feel like this movies exists so that kids like me who grew up watching Indiana Jones can point to real life treasure hunters and still think they can do it.

Collide
I don't care about the romance, I only want to know why Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones both have American accents.

Colossal
Waking up to discover that you were in control of a giant monster on the other side of the world would be kind of cool.

I Am Michael
Gus Van Sant and James Franco team back up to make a controversial flick about a guy who thinks the Bible cured his gayness. How about he just realises he's bisexual.

Trailers Week 132: 15/01/17

Baywatch (NSFW)
The idea of lifeguards overstepping their bounds is pretty funny. I'm surprised that the TV show wasn't a comedy either. I guess it's because David Hasselhoff has only become a joke in recent in recent years.

CHIPs
While we're on the topic of TV shows being made into movies, I doubt anyone who will see this even knows what CHiPs was. Why is Michael Peña always being dragged into these buddy cop movies. Where's the trust that he can carry a drama on his own.

Sleepless (NSFW)
From dumb cops to vengeful ones. This looks pretty terrible but at least it's original.

Gold (NSFW)
I'm not sure if Matthew McConaughey's character was crazy before he got the gold or if the money he got as a result made him crazy. Or maybe McConaughey is just crazy himself.

Kong: Skull Island
I don't normally cover Asian trailers for Hollywood blockbusters, but something about this Japanese trailer just made me super excited for this movie in a different way.

Sleight
Because gangs from South Central just need that one token magician these days.

Cars 3
I don't know why I'm so obsessed with this since I haven't even seen one of the Cars movies.

Sunday, 8 January 2017

Trailers Week 131: 08/01/17

Child's Play
When your trailer stresses that it's an all new movie, but only has footage from older movies in the franchise, that might be a small cause for concern. And besides, I had no idea they still made Chucky movies, let alone seven of them.

Cars 3
Speaking of concern, that first trailer for Cars 3 was kinda promising with it's darker and grittier look, but now this looks like a return to the old style. I'd hardly class this as a trailer when you're only introducing some new characters.

Fifty Shades Darker
Enough of the kids stuff, lets watch a trailer for some super uncomfortable 'adult' entertainment. This just looks like an annoying self repeating cycle.

The Space Between Us
Now for some teen romance, but with a lot less sex. There's too much to say about this. That kid's heart is obviously going to be fine, because despite the change in gravity, love beats everything. Except maybe cardiac arrest.

All Nighter
And finally a reason for guys to be scared off/not get to close to their girlfriend's fathers.

Trailers Week 130: 01/01/17

Alien: Covenant (NSFW)
Wow, they've made a new Alien movie. A sequel to the prequel, audiences sure love those. I don't think the Ridley Scott name means anything to people these days. Brace for impact.

Wow, there was only one trailer released this week. I really don't know what to say. Happy New Year, I guess.

Sunday, 25 December 2016

Trailers Week 129: 25/12/16

Blade Runner 2049
This sequel takes place 30 years after the original and will probably be really good considering acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve is at the helm.

John Wick: Chapter 2
We all loved the first movie, so let's hope the sequel lives up to the name and maybe even give Keanu's career a boost.

A Cure For Wellness
This thriller has the shadows of Shutter Island with it. I'm not sure if Gore Verbinski has the same skill level as Martin Scorsese though.

The Lost City of Z
Even by the 1920s, I'm pretty sure all those so-called lost cities would have been found. Or maybe this city just didn't want to be found.

How To Be A Latin Lover
This comedy about a lothario who gets romantically involved with rich older women looks hilarious.

The Emoji Movie
I'll be honest, Steven Wright's dry performance always makes me laugh.

Sunday, 18 December 2016

Trailers Week 128: 18/12/16

Arsenal
Despite this film having a lot of other stars, I can't get over Nicolas Cage looking exactly like he did in the movie Deadfall where he was absolutely insane.

Snatched
I'm not one to badmouth a movie just from the trailer, but I don't think I get this one. It's also just expanding on the myth that Latin America is a super dangerous place to visit.

Going In Style
Old guys robbing a bank, that's kinda cute. But then when you remember that Michael Caine was in The Italian Job, maybe it becomes a bit more conceivable.

The Fate of the Furious
Never betray your family. Otherwise your family will come back to get you. Did I mention these people were a family? Family.

Alone In Berlin
Part of me really hopes that this is an original movie about Nazi Germany and not based on a true story. I get that it's history and there's so many stories to tell, but I just want to see something where we don't already know the outcome.

Dunkirk
Like this one. But then again it does look like Tom Hardy is playing a Nazi fighter pilot. He'd be up for a challenge like that.

Norman
Richard Gere plays a 'fixer', but not the regular type who makes messy situations go away. Or maybe he does.

The Bye Bye Man
Do you know how hard it is to not think of something if I tell you not to? Don't think about a pink elephant.

Unforgettable
No wonder that guy divorced Katherine Heigl. I don't blame him.

Despicable Me 3
An 80s themed movie villain is a fun idea if you ask me.

Sunday, 11 December 2016

Trailers Week 127: 11/12/16

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
But if he only had one cassette tape worth of music, then where will the new 80s tracks come from. Never mind the potential paradox caused by movie music because, look, it's baby Groot!!

The Mummy
For those of you who didn't know, Tom Cruise's superpower is the ability to sprint away his problems. Good thing old dead Egyptians like to move at a snail's pace.

Transformers: The Last Knight
Now I just really want to see a Transformers movie set in medieval times.

Spider-Man: Homecoming
At least it's not another origin story. And check out Michael Keaton as the Vulture. Good move!

War for the Planet of the Apes
Yep, we get it. The apes have to get to the dominant form on the planet. Can't we fast forward to when they start designing their funky clothes from the original.

Fifty Shades Darker
From that last anticipated sequel to this one. Just kidding, no wanted this movie. And why do they have to come out on Valentine's Day? If anything, these movies turn everyone off.

Baywatch
If you want sexy, just watch this. It's got a whole cast of beautiful people. I'm actually glad that they turned this into a comedy, you couldn't make a serious movie of it these days.

Assassin's Creed
I'd still rather play that Roy game from Rick and Morty.

The Wall
Remember the movie Phone Booth? Wasn't that great? Now let's do the same thing, but in the desert and with two people instead of one.

Fist Fight
Poor Charlie, he won't stand a chance. But then again, he shouldn't've been a sneak around Ice Cube.

The Circle
Is it a cult or a tech company? I mean Tom Cruise would make a glorious leader if it ever came to it.

Sunday, 4 December 2016

Trailers Week 126: 04/12/16

Incarnate
It's a new take on the whole how to get a demon out of someone thing, but the one thing I really want from this movie is for Aaron Eckhart to be the demon.

Eloise
Seriously, you haven't been told not to mess around with insane asylums?

The Autopsy of Jane Doe
It's probably ancient zombies, but what a way to confine the action/horror.

The Belko Experiment (NSFW)
Don't tell me you wouldn't kill Carol from accounting if you had the chance.

Sleight
I get that this one is about a kid with telekinetic powers, but the fact that it's made by WWE is concerning.

The Shack
So I guess he went crazy after his kid died. That's understandable.

Office Christmas Party
By the time the third trailer for a movie comes out it really becomes a struggle to think of something clever to write, especially when it comes out next week.

Sunday, 27 November 2016

Trailers Week 125: 27/11/16

Cars 3
Prepare yourself as Pixar does a gritty reboot.

The Book of Love
I don't know what's worse; Maisie Williams' atrocious southern accent or the fact that we know Jessica Biel is going to die at some point in the movie. Probably the accent.

Silence
Get ready for an updated version of the classic flick The Mission, only with a lot less good actors. Except Adam Driver. He's pretty good.

Passengers
So instead of giving us more info about what's happening in the movie, this trailer just wants to show us all the explosions.

The Comedian
The idea of Robert De Niro doing stand up is actually quite terrifying.

Goon: The Last of the Enforcers
Get ready for some more hockey hijinks.

Fences
Get ready for some good acting from Denzel. But like actual good acting, none of this Flight business.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
I'm really looking forward to that tropical planet.

Sunday, 20 November 2016

Trailers Week 124: 20/10/16

Ghost in the Shell
I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but of all the cool animes to make a Hollywood remake of, they went with this one? What about Akira or Neon Genesis Evangelion? Oh, wait, they did that last one pretty poorly with Pacific Rim. Good luck Scarlett.

Beauty and the Beast
While everyone's getting excited at their first look at Emma Watson in this live action Disney remake, I think I'm the only one obsessing over Luke Evans as Gaston. It's a pretty inspired choice if you ask me.

Kong: Skull Island
Meanwhile elsewhere in Remake Land, the modern take on King Kong is shaping up to be pretty exciting.

100 Streets
Idris Elba's new movie isn't the big action movie we'd all expect, but rather a drama about a former rugby champion on the ropes.

Jackie
Natalie Portman's long-awaited Jackie Onassis biopic about her life post-JFK looks like a doozy.

Patriots Day
Meanwhile, another Son of Boston fights to bring down the terrorists and save the day.

Detour
I really hope that this movie splits off into two timelines somewhere during the action.

Monster Trucks
Scott Summers' older brother Lucas Till has decided to go for a more kid friendly movie.

Hidden Figures
I think racist Americans would look at black people a lot differently if they knew there wouldn't be a space program without them.

Why Him? (NSFW)
I just wanna know if those pictures of young Bryan Cranston are real or photoshopped.

Before I Fall
Zoey Deutch again in this darker Groundhog Day for teens.

A Kind of Murder
I think this is going to achieve what The Girl on the Train failed to.

The Zookeeper's Wife
Jessica Chastain decides to become the Oskar Schindler of zoos.

Sunday, 13 November 2016

Trailers Week 123: 13/11/16

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
Luc Besson's new movie looks to be even weirder than ones he's made in the past. At least this one doesn't have Chris Tucker from The Fifth Element.

Underworld: Blood Wars
After all these movies, does Kate Beckinsale really need to be protected?

Live By Night
Ben Affleck shows that Boston isn't always better by relocating to Miami.

Solace
So this killer has set it up so that the cops know exactly who is? Why not avoid even being found out by dumping your dead bodies off the edge of a highway like a regular serial killer.

Collateral Beauty
Would I be reading into this too much if I wanted this movie to be a spiritual sequel to The Pursuit of Happyness. That pun about spirits was intended.

Sunday, 6 November 2016

Trailers Week 122: 06/11/16

T2: Trainspotting 2 (NSFW)
From what we can see in this trailer, T2 is going to be based on Irvine Welsh's sequel to his classic book aptly titled Porno. I doubt that anyone would actually go see a movie called Porno though.

Wilson (NSFW)
I haven't laughed this hard in a while. Woody Harrelson is in a movie actually befitting the talents that he has.

Office Christmas Party
If you can use that big end of year office party to woo a potential new client, you totally take that opportunity to write off those expenses as deductibles. I think these Christmas comedies are my new favourite genre.

Renegades
What's better than a bit of harmless treasure hunting in a war zone? George Clooney did it 17 years ago and he came out unscathed.

Wonder Woman
From one historical war zone to a much earlier one. I gotta say this DC movie doesn't look too bad. I know that we've been tempted with three good trailers for three bad movies from DC, but you know what they say, fourth times a charm.

Life
Now to space with a classic alien on a space station movie. But this one has Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds and, you know, realistic space physics. I know that last one is a lot more popular than the first two.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage
I'm truly speechless. I really am. Skis on gravel and dirt bikes on water. Vin Diesel must love opposite day.

Pet
Dominic Monaghan looks just so scary in this. I don't have any touchstone to compare him to.

20th Century Women
Just a movie about the right way to raise a kid.

Gifted
And this one is about how to raise a smart kid. It's surely going to make Chris Evans a lot more endearing than he already is.

La La Land
Big ticket musicals aren't really a thing any more and this looks like it might bring them back.

Sunday, 30 October 2016

Trailers Week 121: 30/10/16

Frank & Lola
This movie is about the obsession a guy feels for his girlfriend. But like taken to the extreme.

Man Down
Shia LaBeouf is obviously traumatised by the things he's seen and done while at war.

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk
I guess this is how heroes are made. This movie looks like it shows a totally different version to the returned soldier story that we just watched.

Sugar Mountain
This scheme to make money might actually work in a perfect world. You fake someone's disappearance in the wilderness, only to 'find' them a couple of days later. Then you write a book and sell the movie rights.

Split
M. Night Shyamalan tries again to make a suspenseful movie. Apparently if you have split personality disorder, you can also shapeshift your body. This is coming from the guy who made The Last Airbender.

Sunday, 23 October 2016

Trailers Week 120: 23/10/16

Logan
I'm really hoping that this new Wolverine movie doesn't turn into a crazy action movie and stays as a restrained and quiet drama with a couple of fight scenes. I think that would be the way to go.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
As great as the last movie was, I really hope they don't reuse the soundtrack. Still, looks like a lot more space fun is coming our way.

Assassin's Creed
Just a lot of confusing action in this trailer. And I played the games.

Arrival
Thems certainly look like aliens alright. But seriously though, any life form we would meet would barely have what we call a 'language'.

Nocturnal Animals
I think the lesson of this movie is to not violently break the heart of a Southern gentleman.

A Cure for Wellness
This one looks like Stranger Things met Shutter Island.

Operator
This feels like a semi-prequel to Her, where the guy who invents the voice personal assistant just wanted his girlfriend around him all the time.

The Boss Baby
I can just imagine this is what Alec Baldwin was like as a baby.

Sunday, 16 October 2016

Trailers Week 119: 16/10/16

Army of One
Just when you think Nicolas Cage couldn't get any crazier, he goes ahead and stars in a movie where he thinks God is telling him to kill bin Laden. Then again, it does come from director Larry Charles, who is equally as insane.

USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage
This week we're doubling down on Nic Cage. This time we see his more serious side in the story about the ship that delivered the atomic bomb during the Pacific War.

Life on the Line
When you've made a movie about damn near every job imaginable, you start scraping the bottom of the barrel. I give you John Travolta as a lineman.

Trash Fire
Apparently this horror flick is also a comedy.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
For those of you who sat through all those trailers, you get a treat. Unless you're not a fan of Star Wars, in which case you have to sit through this one as well.
